The first two US women both won gold medals. An unprecedented missed weight substitution happened at 50kg — and that was after one of the greatest upsets in wrestling history. Mijaín López became the first Olympian in any sport to win the same event five Games in a row.
It’s been a wild few days.
One of my favorite wrestling traditions: the coach throw. After big victories, oftentimes one or the other is gonna go flying. Sometimes the athlete launches the coach, sometimes the coach does the honors. I always love it.

Another one of my favorite traditions: when an athlete leaves their shoes in the middle of the mat, signifying their retirement from competition. It’s bittersweet, as it’s (generally) the end of a spectacular career, but the act always gets a big ovation and it’s an event filled with emotion. Much of the time, they happen after a loss, so they’re frequently tear-filled. And then sometimes, they go out with a victory, and it’s incredible.

I’m finding that daily posts are not going to be possible. The volume of images I’m making, the number of clients I’m working for, and the amount of time it takes to get to and from the venue every day leave precious little time left for writing and, unfortunately, sleep. So I’m going to do what I can and then publish a longer recap later.
